Baptism, cONFIRMATION AND reception
At Muswellbrook Anglican, we believe that baptism is a special moment in an individual's life. Baptism is a sacrament of the Christian faith and in this service we welcome new members into the community of the church. Our baptism service is an intentional, inclusive, and meaningful ceremony with the following elements:
The Renunciation: A renunciation of evil and and the works and ways of evil is made.
The Profession of Faith: A public profession of faith in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is made.
The Baptism: The priest pours water over the head, or immerses the person in water, in the name of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as a sign of their new life in Christ.
The Sign of the Cross & Anointing: The priest marks the forehead of the person being baptised with holy chrism oil, symbolising consecration to God, and a new life in the Holy Spirit.
The Giving of a Lighted Candle: A lighted candle, from the Easter or Paschal Candle, is given as a symbol of new life in Christ and the call to be Christ’s light in the world.
We believe that baptism is an important milestone in a person's life, at any age or stage of life, and we would be honored to help you celebrate this special moment.

We also offer Confirmation and or Reception into the Anglican Church, which marks the completion of a person's Christian formation and the moment when they make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism and full participation in the life of the Church.
The person being confirmed, or received, will make a public affirmation of their faith, and the bishop will lay their hands on the person's head, praying that the person will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live a life in faith and service.
